Seniors vs Leeds Utd – 18th August 2019 – Div 1

Bandon hosted Leeds AFC in their first league game of the new season. A tough game to start with as Leeds were a premier side last year. Bandon enjoyed the majority of the possession in the opening half. They played the game in a very determined fashion. However, the opening goal of the game came against the run of play. A through ball which seemed offside set the Leeds striker away and he chipped it past the oncoming Bandon keeper Prendergast. Bandon responded well after conceding and continued to dominate the game up to the half time whistle.

They came close to equalising in the 56th minute. A corner was swung in and headed down into the 6 yard box but the Bandon striker put it over from close range. Bandon continued to press but it wasn’t until the 82nd minute that the elusive goal arrived. After a scramble in the box, it fell to Hurley. His strike was blocked by his teammate and then after a further scramble, the ball was forced home by Ronan Crowley.

Heading into injury time, it was the home side that looked like getting a winner but with 3 minutes to go, Leeds struck a surprise winner.

Manager Sean Holland was immensely proud of his team’s effort and he is right as Bandon can take a lot of positives from the tie as every player gave 100%. They go again on Tuesday night.

Man of the match: Jordan Lehane -It was his first time playing in the 1st Division of the Munster Senior League and he was superb. Solid as a rock at the back.
