Ballincollig 1-2 Bandon

29th September 2012

Bandon travelled to Ballincollig on Saturday to take on Premier League team Ballincollig in the first round of the National Cup. Ballincollig were red hot favourites to win through to the second round but after the match got underway it seemed they were not going to have it their own way as Bandon got stuck in from the off. The first 15 mins were even but then Bandon defence and midfield started to get the measure of their opponents. The first goal came after 19 mins when Eoin Nolan had a shot from just inside the box saved by the keeper but was on hand to slot home the rebound from the keeper. Bandon’s lead lasted just one minute when Ballincollig had a corner which Bandon defence failed to clear and the ball hit off a defender to make the sides even at half time.

The second half started with Bandon still on top and had chances from Jordan McCabe, Joe Gibson and Colm Dineen which were saved or went narrowly wide. David Behan and James Kelleher were rock solid at the back for Bandon but the final whistle sounded with the sides still level. Extra time was needed and it looked like going to penalties until with 2 mins to go Morgan Madden was on aware in the penalty area and when the ball fell to him he kept his composure to put the ball in the net. Bandon held on for a good victory. All Bandon players played but James Kelleher, Jack Kelly , Shane Scanlon and Greg O’Sullivan are worthy of mention.

Any of the players used could be named Man Of The Match but for an overall display of solid defending and leadership on the field Bandon Man Of The Match is David Behan.

Team:  Shane Scanlon, Jack Kelly, David Behan, James Kelleher, Greg O’Sullivan, Joe Gibson, Eoin Hurley, Colm Dineen, Sam Shorten, Eoin Nolan, Jordan McCabe, Peter Blake, Morgan Madden, John O’ Shea, James Daly.
