Bandon 2-1 Leeds Pop Keller Cup Qtr-Final

9th May 2013

The game saw the current top 2 in the first division go head to head and the winner knew they would play blarney away in the semi final. The game saw Leeds start the stronger and they kept the ball well, but they struggled to break Bandon down and even though they dominated the possession the majority of possession was in their own half. Bandon grew into the game and started to threaten and it was on the 40th minute Richard was taken down and a free kick was awarded from 30 yards. Holland stood up and drilled the ball into the top corner. Bandon pushed on from this and could have had a second through Cullen. Leeds equaliser came before the half through a corner and a powerful header from Leeds best player centre back Fitzy. The game went into the half time interval at 1-1 and it was a fair reflection of the game.

The second half started with Bandon pushing higher up the pitch and they started to pass the ball better and through this dominate the possession and Cullen pace in behind was a huge threat. Substitute Audie Dunlea was a match changing moment as he dominated the midfield with substitute Gavin Shields holding the ball up, and spreading the play. This allowed Bandon to play higher up the pitch and the goal came from man of the match Benny Lynch winning possession in his own half, powering into midfield playing a split pass to Richard Holland who had dropped deep, he then split the defence with Cullen run opening up the space for Holden to run in behind and the pass was perfect and equally the finish was too. Holden met the ball full on with his left and struck across goal giving the keeper no chance. In top form for Bandon was man of match Benny Lynch, Richard Holland, Audie Dunlea, Gavin Shields, Brendan Cullen and Keith Holden. Bandon now play Leeds in the final league fixture with Bandon knowing a win will guarantee promotion to the Premier Division. Kick off in the town park is @ 3.
