Bandon 5-1 Mallow Utd

Saturday 15th September

On Saturday Bandon got off to a fantastic start to their first year playing competitive football with a convincing 5-1 win at home to a strong mallow side. In the first 15 mins of the game it was very tight with both teams having two very good half chances each which pulled off fine save from Bandon goal keeper Dylan Traynor and equally so from his opposite number. It was Bandon who broke the dead lock on the 20 minute mark with a goal mouth scramble but it was Rory Galvin who put the ball over the line to get Bandon’s first goal. Bandon finished the half with some great work from Tristan Duke and Jack Callnan up front while Brian McSweeney and Jack Lucey were sweeping up with the defensive duties in the Bandon back line. Bandon came close to double their lead just before half time from a superb corner from Brian McSweeney, Connor Creigh Piper was unlucky not to get his head onto the it. Connor looked a major treat from these corners with his height and strength. Bandon went into half time with a one nil lead. Bandon came flying out the traps in the second half and it was long before they doubled their lead and it was from one of those treating corners, ball whipped into the box and Gavin Hodge slotted the ball home. Bandon pushed on from this lead and it was long before Rory and Gavin doubled their tally for the day and doubling Bandon’s lead to 4 nil. The lads had there right full Harry Donegan and their two outstanding centre midfields Gavin O’Brien and Niall Daly to thank for setting up these two great goals the lads controlled the pace of the game from the beginning. Bandon had now made all their subs and they went on a made an extra impact on the game. Oisin O’Neill was very unlucky not to get himself on the score sheet, while Eoin Clifford got himself his first goal with 5 minutes to go. Bandon could have had loads of goals if it wasn’t for some outstanding saves from the Mallow keeper who was definitely Mallow’s man of the match. Mallow did manage the get on constellation goal before the final whistle.
