Bandon AFC’s Junior side ran out 5-1 winners at home to College Corinthians.
The Junior’s dominated the game in the opening half but lacked that killer pass to create enough goal scoring opportunities.
However just after the half hour mark, the ball broke to Richie O’Regan in midfield, who showed some composure and good control of the ball. His quick ball through to Bandon striker King Iyalla put him one on one with the Corinthians keeper. Iyalla coolly slotted the ball home. A deserved 1-0 lead for Bandon.
Corinthians rarely threatened the Bandon goal as Bandon defended well anytime they did with solid performances from Harrington, Kelly, Sullivan and O’Connell. Doolan also commanded things well in between the posts.
The Bandon boys were quick to get off the mark again after some tactical halftime team talk from their manager Eddie Andepu.
They started reaping their rewards as it took them just 5 mins into the second half to double their lead. Some great work from McCarthy on the right wing led to James Campbell striking brilliantly in to the bottom corner. Bandon pushed for a third to seal the three points. This came from a corner kick which was well floated in by O’Regan and Sullivan powerfully headed it home.
Corinthians tried to work back into the game but this allowed more space for the Bandon team to attack. King Iyalla got his second and was unlucky not to get a third but for a good save from the opposing keeper who was kept busy all through. Jack Kelly made it 5-0 late on before Corinthians struck a consolation goal.
Some superb performances all round. A great win to make it 4 points from 2 games for the Bandon Juniors.
