Cobh Wanderers 0-0 Bandon

22nd September 2012

This away game was nip and tuck from the outset with both teams starting slowly, and no real chances being created. Cobh were more comfortable on their tight pitch and the poor bobbly surface that was near impossible to play football on but struggle to create any clear chances. Bandon on the other hand grew in strength with every minute and should have taken the lead when a break away saw Holland square the ball and only a good save from Cullen’s shot restricting the lead. Again, ten minutes later the ball found its way to Cullen but for some good defending, a corner was all Bandon got. At half time both sides would have been happy but Bandon started the second half that bit brighter and Sullivan was a constant threat in the box and Bandon should have again taken the lead, but Cobh came closest with a great save from Hurley and the Cobh player hit the rebound off the crossbar. This seemed to motivate Bandon and in the last ten minutes again through Cullen, Holland and O’Sullivan, they were unlucky not to take all three points but the game finished 0-0 and in the end a fair result in a tough place to go.

Bandon sit top with 7pts from 3 games with blarney second on 6pts from 2 games and Leeds third with 4pts from 2. Bandon look forward to a home fixture next week when they host Youghal at 3pm in the League. In top form for Bandon were Mick Bradfield, John Sullivan, Brendan Cullen and Keith Holden.
