Ringmahon 0-1 Bandon

8th September 2012

As the game was match of the week and the first league game of the season with both teams with ambitions for promotion so the game was tight from the outset. Bandon started with a very high intensity and pressed the ball high and ended up forcing Ringmahon deep into their own half and as the ball broke into the box and Ger Harrington went to win the ball in the air he was fouled and the gk was given a yellow card and Bandon awarded a penalty. Richard Holland stood up and sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Bandon pressed on for more and an excellent footballing move saw the ball crossed with pace from Holden only to have it glance of the head of Brendan Cullen who made a late run to the back post and who was the player that started the move. The game was 1-0 at half time and as the second half began Ringmahon got frustrated with the compact Bandon shape and were unable to break the Town down and as the game developed Ringmahon’s frustrations were shown by their repetitive indiscipline, Bandon didn’t rise to it and ended the game creating two or three chances and should have added to their lead. Ringmahon didn’t created any clear chance but were a constant threat from the long ball and the long throw but John Sullivan rose to it and was in the end awarded the player of the week award and the man of the match award. Bandon now look forward to Tramore at home in the league next Saturday.
