Watergrasshill United 2-5 U13A Boys – 10th November 2019 – Div 6

Bandon went into this game needing a reaction after their recent defeat to Carrigaline. Bandon started extremely well as they took the lead after 1 minute. The goal came from Kyle O’Connell who finished very well from inside the opposition box. The home side tried to respond immediately as their striker was put through one on one with the Bandon keeper. Martin O’Sullivan sped off his line and made a great save. 10 minutes later and Adam Griffin doubled the away side’s lead with another fine finish. Bandon were playing some super attacking football. The midfield of Bandon – Griffin, O’Connell, Daly and Kane were working hard to create scoring chances for their team mates.

As they looked to get their third, Watergrasshill caught them on the break and their striker slotted home to make it 1-2. Game on. Watergrasshill pushed for an equalizer but the Bandon defence of O’Keeffe, Hurley, Buckley and O’Donoghue defended brilliantly to keep it at 2-1 at half time.
In to the second half and Bandon knew that the next goal would prove to be vital. However, Watergrasshill came out battling and were unlucky not to equalize if not for the superb defending, particularly by Aaron Hurley. He acted as a sweeper and carried out his duties excellently, ensuring that the home side were kept at bay until Bandon got their third of the match. He had some vital interventions and tackles.
10 minutes into the second half, Bandon got their third. A superb finish from Matthew O’Mahony who has scored many goals for the team this season. He worked tirelessly throughout the game against a strong defence but eventually broke them down to give his side a bit of breathing space. From here on, Bandon looked very dangerous in attack and it was no surprise when they scored their fourth. It came from Fionn Coughlan. He was played through and struck the ball in off the post. More good chances came from the creativity of Burns, Daly and Czaja. Burns was pulling the strings from center midfield alongside Daly and Kane. Watergrasshill scored again on the break but minutes later O’Mahony restored Bandon’s three goal lead to make it 5-2. O’Mahony was assisted up front by de Burca and Coughlan who both had good games.
It was a fantastic squad performance. The starting team as well as the subs – Burns, Czaja, Coughlan and Good all played brilliantly to gain an important away win.
