Bandon 1-4 Riverstown Nat Cup 1st Round

29th September 2012

Bandon U13s played in their National Cup 1st round against Riverstown on Saturday after two league wins. However Riverstown were also off the back of two good league win with both teams after scoring a bundle of goals. However Riverstown would start favourites as they compete two divisions above Bandon.

Bandon though got off to the worse possible start in the game conceding two early goals to find them 2 nil down within 7mins. But fair play to Bandon they didn’t just drop their heads and worked well as a team. Rob O’Driscoll was playing well in centre of defence as Riverstown tried long balls over the top that Rob cleared up well. Aaron Hutchinson was at his busiest in the three games so far pulling off so great saves. Bandon tried their hardest to break down Riverstown with good football by keeping the ball in the last 10mins in the half playing it from side to side but were unsuccessful but conceded a late 1st half goal to go onto the break 3 nil down.

Bandon started the second half well by keeping the ball in the Riverstown half for the start of the 2ndhalf. Bandon’s goal came in this spell of possession when rewarded a free kick about 15 yards into Riverstown half. James Campbell took it and aimed it straight down the centre of the goal and as players crossed the face of the goal looking for the vital touched both attackers and defenders both missed it and as the keeper was left stranded the ball bounced around the penalty spot and in under the cross bar to make it 3-1. However the same result didn’t occur when Bandon had a free kick slightly nearer to the goal to other side of the pitch. This free kick struck straight at goal and just went over the cross bar. As Bandon now went for broke in the cup match where the next goal would be vital as you felt if Bandon got another they could get a result but this didn’t happen as it was Riverstown who struck next to make it 4-1. Aaron Hutchinson made more saves before the end of the games to keep the result at 4-1.

Bandon done well in the cup match against a team a couple divisions ahead and now focus turns back to league for their next match.
